Charging times and battery life varies from product to product and can depend on the type of driving surface and the weight of the driver too. Standard charging times normally vary between 8 - 12 hours and run times from 45 minutes up to 2 hours. It's important to remember that the cars are designed to be used as play accessories not a means of getting to distant destinations - in practice the child will often get a full days play from the car as s/he will be stopping and starting, jumping in and out.

Please note that the vast majority of all new electric cars require a full charge before use to initiate the battery for the first time. This is an important step to ensure the best performance in the future. Please refer to your product manual for exact charging times. 

Electric ride on cars come in three speeds, 6V, 12V and 24V. The ‘V' symbol refers to the voltage of the battery and generally the higher the voltage, the faster and better the performance of the ride on.

6V electric ride on toys are suitable for ages 1 - 5 and are great on flat surfaces but may struggle on grass

12V electric ride on toys can reach speeds of up to 5mph and are perfect for use on all surfaces including grass. Suitable for ages 2 - 6

24V electric ride on toys are high quality, high performance vehicles for older children. Suitable for ages 6 and above

The most important factors in making a great choice of ride on car can be the age of the driver, where the car will be driven and what budget is best for you.

Younger drivers aged 1 - 3 are often best suited to pedal cars and 6V electric cars. These are great introductory cars, good value for money and allow the child to learn how to drive at lower speeds. We have many customers who then upgrade from pedal to electric and from 6V electric to new 12V electric cars through the years as their child grows and they become more familiar with driving. 

Despite being slightly heavier and having the need to recharge the batteries, Electric ride on cars are often more exciting, more adventurous and more talked about than the more traditional pedal car - a great way to make new friends and get from A to B just like Mum and Dad.

Pedal cars on the other hand are great because they require very little looking after and are always ready to play.

Like most toys, the majority of the ride on cars available through Totcars will require some assembly before driving. Normally this involves attaching the wheels, stickers and other parts before play.

If you aren't keen on assembly we recommend choosing a Toys Toys ride on as they require the least assembly time - normally just involving the wing mirrors and steering wheel.

As well as assembly, all electric cars will need to be given a full charge before use. Please refer to your product manual for instructions on this

Even the most well looked-after ride on toys are likely to need some TLC over time.

On the rare occasion that you are experiencing issues with your pedal car please check the condition of your pedal rods. After years of use or if your pedal rods are slipping or causing performance issues they may be due for replacement.

On the rare occasion that you are experiencing issues with your electric ride on car, please make sure that:

·        The Power is on and forward gear is selected

·        The battery is charged

·        All necessary connections and wiring are in good condition and are tightly secure - disconnect and re-connect if necessary

·        The fuse is in intact - if you cannot see a thin metal strip within the fuse it is likely your fuse needs replacing. Refer to the original fuse or product manual to locate and see what amp fuse you need for replacement

·        Your battery is in good health - batteries in poor health are the number one cause for performance issues. Obtaining a battery reading is a very helpful step in troubleshooting and all batteries should be showing a voltage reading at their initial value or above. A 6V battery for instance should be showing 6.00 Volts or above, a 12V battery should be showing 12.00 Volts or above etc. and any voltage reading lower than this is likely to be causing an issue in functionality or performance. Volt readings can be easily carried out with a multi-meter and new batteries can be ordered through our siteif necessary

·        Your battery charger is in good health - if your charger has a light/LED that is now not working, is getting unusually hot or making an unusual sound during charging, an issue may have developed and your charger is likely due for replacement

If your issues persist after these checks or after a battery or charger replacement, please contact us quoting your order number, what product you have, how old the product is and any pictures if necessary and we will consult our team of technicians to help you.

Please note, as the health of a battery relies on how the battery is used and looked-after, batteries are excluded from all product warranties among our full range of electric ride on cars. This is common across all electrical toys, not just ride on toys, and new batteries specifically for our ride on toys can be ordered under our spare parts section if necessary
